How to align your clients to their schedule

Have you ever been frustrated when your clients fail to follow your recommendations? You deliver the best report on evidence-based research, clinical outcomes, your experience and client feedback and still, your client fails to take up your advice.

Dr. Andrew Arnold (Chiropractor) talks about how to uncover your client’s true motivations beyond pain relief.

In my experience working with many health practitioners there are many reasons for this however, in my view there is one underlying reason, ‘insufficient clarity’.

This could relate to your ideal avatar; your over-arching treatment plan; your patient consent information; your practice model; your client message…

All these areas need absolute clarity before your client can then be clear. With clarity comes empowerment, enrolment, compliance and this means better clinical outcomes and happier clients.

I deep dive into all these concepts in my program, The Million Dollar Wellness Intern, however, for the purposes of this article I want to focus on a fundamental principle I believe is at the heart of aligning your clients to your recommended schedule.

Client motivators!

Whilst pain relief is certainly a motivator I have discovered it’s what behind this that empowers clients to step up and commitment to their health.

This could be playing with the grandkids, returning to work, walking the dog, sleeping well, taking that long-awaited vacation…

I have found if you can uncover the motivator behind pain your client will light up with enthusiasm and engage. They will understand that pain is not the whole story and even when the pain has seemingly resolved, that doesn’t mean they are well. Your client will start to shift from a pain-fix model to well-being manage model.

These motivators are much more motivating than merely getting out of pain. Let’s face it, an anti-inflammatory can often achieve this.

So, with your next new client once they’ve given you their history ask them, ‘so other than getting out of pain, where are you stopped, what are you struggling to do in your life, what do you love to do and why can’t you get back to it?’

Set the bigger goal and watch how your clients evolve towards a wellness-manage model.
