Are you ‘Practitioner’ fit? Are you getting thru your patient load effortlessly and easily? Or are you feeling physically and mentally taxed?
Hi, I’m Dr. Andrew Arnold (Chiropractor), the Practice Leverage Expert, and Founder of the Million Dollar Wellness Practice.
Today I’m talking about training for your occupation.
Think about this. An amateur footy player trains 2x per week for 2 hours in preparation for the Saturday game lasting 2 hours.
We work 30-40 hours per week and do little or no training let alone occupation specific training.
Crazy right!
Now I’m even talking about mental fitness. We’ll get to that!
If you’re a physical therapist, e.g. Chiropractor, Physiotherapist, Myotherapist etc. you need to be physically prepared for your work.
This means dedicated, consistent training at least 2-3 x per week.
Now an assumption is us, physical therapists know what we need to do. Wrong! You might know some stuff about exercise but for most of us it’s our area of expertise, with exceptions of course.
Plus, you’re in fishbowl. It’s impossible to be objective of ourselves. So talk to an exercise physiologist or Personal trainer and work thru an occupation-specific exercise program.
It doesn’t have to be complicated. Exercise bands and a fitball will do the job.
Professional athletes do this all the time.
You will far less prone to injury which can be costly and enjoy your work far more delivering far better treatments, and you will look like the real deal, walking the talk.
Now the emotional fitness. I won’t dive in too much here as I’ve covered this off in other articles. Bottom line managing your state is super important, getting your head right and leaving your ‘stuff’ at the back door. Watch out for my other articles on this subject.
Good luck and stay strong.
